Visit to Yapahuwa kingdom

Yapahuwa, Sri Lanka

Another fantastic rock fortress, Yapahuwa is situated in the North-Western Province of Sri Lanka between Mahawa midway Kurunegala and Anuradhapura. Yapahuwa was the capital of Sri Lanka in the 13th century (1273–1284). Built on a huge, 90-meter-large rock boulder in the style similar to Sigiriya rock fortress,

At the entrance, there are 2 grocery shops if you feel like buying a bottle full of water this is the only option you have around. Then passed a small Buddhist temple on the right side & proceed further to the site it’s a huge area which comprises of foundations of ancient buildings & temples, garden with massive trees dates back to antiquity & huge rocks. Then reach the massive stone stairway. It is a steep climb of 60 -70 stairs up to the main site.

It’s a fascinating location, you will see the talents of ancient Sri Lanka architects, statues of Lions carved in Rocks, Stone pillars & the site of the king’s castle. From there we can further climb up through not too easy paths way passing rocks, stones & bushes up to the huge rock of Yapahuwa. It’s a bird’s eye view from the top & it’s beautiful.
